The Banking Cowboy and I went to see Willie Nelson with Asleep at the Wheel Saturday night. It was a *fabulous* show. Made better because it was just us, a hotel, and the town I went to college in. The campus is about 4 times bigger than it used to be which was surprising.
We ate at my favorite places, I had more falafel in two days than I've had in 5 years. He's planning on going back to school for his Masters in Accounting possibly at my old school, so it was nice to show him around a bit.

Fannish stuff:

I like Dollhouse. I realize a lot of people don't. I realize a lot of people hate it. I understand people are morally and mortally offended by the constant mind raping and physical raping of the characters. To which I have to say, did you read the premise? From the first whispers about it over a year ago, we all knew it was about a group of operatives, mostly female, whose minds are wiped clean and filled with new personalities each episode. What did you expect?

I like Eliza Dushku. I'm probably extremely biased because she's on the short list of women I'm *reallyreallyreally* attracted to. I admit I just like seeing her on my tv and therefore my baseline enjoyment is higher than most. But, I *did* stop watching True Calling because I didn't like the show. I think she's doing a fine job and if there's anyone who's really *not* settling into his/her role and selling it, it's the guy who's always wandering around with the bitchy in charge woman.

Yeah, I suck at names, sue me.

I'm not going to sit here and say Dollhouse is Joss's finest achievement or that he's progressing as a storyteller/character creator. Or doing any of the groundbreaking he's said in interviews this show was going to break. I call BS, but I've been calling BS on him since he said, "I created Buffy as an iconic character." I decided then and there that he wasn't a person I would like if I met him face to face.

He doesn't have to be.

ETA I'm specifically addressing the people who appear to be surprised, that this is what the show is about.

Surprising, or not so surprising, pairings I enjoy in fanfic.

SGA: I'm a complete and total sucker for Rodney McKay/Ronon Dex pairing. I'll read anything that focuses on the two of them. Shippy or gen.

Angel: Wesley/Lilah. I *love* them. One of my biggest issues with the mindwipe was removing that relationship from Wes's memories.

Buffy: Spike/Riley

Firefly: Jayne/Simon. Speaking of Firefly, TBC and I started watching it last night.

Friday Night Lights: Smash/Saracen

Smallville: Oliver/Chloe -- I blame ethrosdemon for that one

Gossip Girl: Dan/Blair

Veronica Mars: Weevil/Logan

Torchwood: Ianto/Owen

I have to remind myself that people sometimes just need something to get up in arms about and TV is easier to get upset about because it's not ACTUALLY as upsetting as stuff in the real world.

Yeah. I have been noticing this more and my tolerance for it is... less than what it used to be. I'm starting to actually call people on it, which gets me a mixed bag of reactions, most of them not so good. I don't even care anymore. It's fucking stupid. If you have reasons to go whole-hog into internet insanity, well, I can't really complain (and there's one person on my flist, in a different show, for who that applies; she needs an outlet to be unhappy about since she's Stiff Upper Lipping life, and you can't really say anything to that, you know?). But most people? Don't. They just don't, no matter how they rationalize it.

I keep waiting for Joss to insert the funny. I miss Joss' witty turn of phrase and how he could slide through some really depressing events with a laugh.

I keep waiting for the funny too, but clearly this is not one of Joss's quip-tastic endeavors.

I laughed so hard I had to stop and calm down on this line:

I've got four older brothers, none of them are Democrats

but I did spend about two hours in a gun store this weekend with my very Republican boyfriend.

there needs to be more, but they're just warming up. I didn't laugh at all in the pilot
