turnonmyheels: (Vampire Diaries: bonnie gorgeous)

I've got to say it. I normally think the writers of this show *get it*. They know how to tell the story, the audience, and get the best out of the actors. They dropped the ball last night. It's not that I don't think the characters would do the things they did -- they *absolutely would* most especially Damon and Alaric -- what didn't work was the pacing. Normally I love the breakneck speed but it also normally fits the characterizations. I feel like the writers took a gigantic short cut OR and this OR should totally be capitalized and bolded: there was a scene that didn't make it through the editing process that would explain why in one scene Damon is making chili and in the next he's doing everything he can to prove to everyone ::cough Elena and himself:: that he's still the same bad, scary, vampire he's always been.

Hello Bonnie!! Welcome back! Hello Anna OMG your scenes with Jeremy are always the best scenes Jeremy has ever had. Steven and Malese just have inexplicably magic chemistry with one another. OMG WAY TO BE A GROWN UP AND COMMUNICATE JER!!!!

Caroline is hands down, my favorite part of the show. She may believe she's shallow and petty and vapid, but she's not. She's everything she ever wanted to be and it's SO SAD that her Daddy is never going to love her again.

I think it's hysterical how in one scene I think: Oh, Elena. you're so sad and depressed. you look like you've forgotten to eat since Stefan's been gone. And in the next scene I'm all: Dang Katherine, your cheeks look nicely rounded. Chicagoans must taste great!

As if they're portrayed by completely different actresses. I'm sure last night it was the hair styling and make up that helped convey hollow-cheeked sad Elena, and round-cheeked rosy Katherine.

BUT!! I also NEVER think of Katherine and Elena as being portrayed by the same actress. They are completely individual to me so Kudos to Nina for being so incredibly awesome at her job.

I hate to say it, but Sarah Michelle Geller needs to work on her "I'm playing different people thing" because other than the clothes/booze/cigarettes I don't see a difference in her characters. /ringer slam

Something tells me that the hunter that Klaus is so afraid of is either the progenitor of the Forbes line [or another founding family] OR a Saltzman.

Not so secretly I'm hoping for a Saltzman. Or for Daddy!Forbes [whom I hate with a fiery, fiery passion] IS the original hunter.

Will the original witch be a Bennett?

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Now, writers. Get your asses in line and make the rest of the season work to serve the characters and not the plot.

This is exactly what I was thinking watching the last two episodes of Ringer. Because I am so used to Nina's awesome portrayal of Kat/Elena that SMG's performance didn't match up. I mean, Nina even changes her voice for each character (when Kat's not pretending to be Elena, anyway). Siobhan & Bridget sounded exactly the same.

Back on track, I've heard that the hunter is the Original Daddy, but I don't know if I believe that yet.

I also don't think the original witch is a Bennett because Bonnie's family was said to have originated in Salem and the original witch cast her spell somewhere in Europe presumably (although there was a time gap there, so...). My head!canon has long held the belief that the original witch was also the original Petrova, the girl once rumored to be called Charlotte Petrova.

Admittedly, Nina has had more time to develop the nuances between Elena and Katherine, BUT if you go back to season 1 -- it's obvious that even then she had developed individual voices, facial expressions, and body languages for both characters.

The fic I've been reading is leaning toward what you've said about the Hunter and the Witch but I'm unsure if this is coming from the books, spoilers, or speculation. IF the original witch is the Petrova or one of Klaus's family or even European how does that work with the current mythology of primarily black witches? So far all the witches/warlocks we've seen have been people of color except for that one white guy.

I'm hoping that the fact that the majority of the witches we've seen are black is more coincidence that anything else; because that the show would decide 'only black people can be witches' doesn't sit well with me.

it makes me extremely uncomfortable and I flinch every time they introduce a new witch. It harkens back to the "magical negro" trope which is disgusting and a 100 kinds of wrong. I was actually quite relieved when the white warlock arrived on the scene.
