turnonmyheels: (FNL: Riggins #1 3/4 view)

If the Menfolk in my office would ever learn to do these 2 very simple things

1) shut the doors
2) make sure the handle on the toilet isn't sticking

My life would be improved by 33% no lie or exaggeration

Yesterday I watched FNL 2 - 12. I have thoughts about the overall arc of the show from Pilot to Finale but I'm too sick/lazy to type them up. I have other thoughts about

about original cast members coming back to say Goodbye:

1) Jason Street was organic, it fit except for him COMPLETELY disregarding Coach's specific request to not pimp him to colleges. That was a very Un-Jason thing to do to someone he doesn't feel obligated to look after.

2) Boy howdy, did Tim Riggins come back BIGGER than ever and greatly changed

3) Tyra and Tim? Not organic. Not at all. Since they split up we've only ever seen derision from Tyra and dis-interest from Tim. It didn't work for me on any level.

4) I really wish Julie Taylor would grow the fuck up. Her parents raised her better than that. And I know that's the point, that really good people with really good upbringing do just as much fucked up shit as people like Vince or Epyck, but damn, it's disappointing

5) Tami being offered the Dean of Admissions to a small college in New England also does not feel organic to me. We were lead to believe in Season 1 that Tami had not worked in YEARS. It was implied, though not stated, that since she had had Julie she had been a stay at home mom. I'm sorry, but 1-2 years as a Guidance Counselor, 1 year as a Principal, and another year as a Guidance Counselor DOES NOT MERIT Dean of Admissions at a college. I get the thematic parallels between her and Coach this season with the perfect job opportunity, but have they also forgotten that Coach and Tami had a commuter relationship in season 2? There's a thematic parallel there too, Tami could go and have her dream job, and Eric could stay in Dillon with the baby [tami was home alone and pregnant after all] and perhaps Julie should take her ass back to Dillon and go to community college and help her Dad.

It's irksome that a show that [aside from Season 2] has been otherwise as perfect as TV could be is falling apart a bit this late in the game. Another irksome thing that's been bugging the crap out of me is inconsistency with East Dillon. Has it been closed all this time? It doesn't seem like it this season. It seems like it's been fully operational for years with the exception of a football team. Last season it appeared as though it had been closed for over 10 years or so.

6) Tim Riggins will always be my A#1 TV Boyfriend. Period. The End. Nothing else to talk about. He is, to me, the perfect character. Please to be seeing all 12 FNL fics I've written if you need other proof, I've only ever written up to 3 in any other fandom. This being said, the parole hearing where Tim didn't say ONE SINGLE WORD, he merely looked up or down, smiled or winced, was the most powerful performance by Taylor Kitsch for all 5 seasons.

And Coach's speech? Jesus Christ. That was Coach Taylor at his best. Billy of course fucked it up and I was worried Buddy was fucking it up too, but when he finished blustering and started speaking it was PERFECT

In short, I most likely won't get to see the finale until Thursday, but I will miss you Friday Night Lights -- no other show has ever inspired me to write like you, no show has ever shown me a more functional marriage or family unit, no show has ever moved me to tears so many times, and no other show ever has even given me someone I love as much as Tim Riggins. Thank you Katims, et al
