Aug. 18th, 2012 08:51 amWent to the movies last night with J. We saw Expendables 2 [even better than the first one! not nearly enough Jet Li though] and The Bourne Legacy a *very* worthy addition to the Bourne universe. I love how it set up new types of Outcomes. They keep tinkering with people and losing control -- it's a great set up for the rest of the franchise. I look forward to more. Lots more.
Fun fact: when I read Avengers fic I mentally picture Hawkeye/Barton as Sean Bean circa Ned Stark but with sunglasses. Before I ever saw the movie I read hundreds of thousands words of fic and that's the mental image I developed. I can't help myself, I've even tried to read with a pic of Jeremy Renner open in another window *as* Hawkeye and mentally I still get Ned Stark with shades. Not unlike when I was reading Harry Potter and accidentally cast the role of Neville Longbottom as Bobby Hill. Now even when watching HP movies when Neville comes onto the scene [except in DH2] he is automatically Bobby Hill. Which, weird seeing a cartoon dude up there with live action.
Brains. What can you do?
So. In a nutshell: Expendables 2 funniest movie I've seen all year. It did let me down on hand to hand combat scenes. There were ... 4 notable ones and other than that it was guns. ::sigh:: I mean, you've got Jean Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, and Chuck Norris all in the same movie, and none of them fight each other? WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY. And yet, hysterical, completely self-aware movie that makes fun of itself and its aging cast. The SOUNDTRACK for the movie is all late 50s early 60s pop music which is what often set off the giggles for me. These guys are old, but they aren't that old.
Bruce Willis did something a bit different with his character and it suddenly hit me that Hollywood has missed out on casting him as Lex Luthor. He should get the opportunity to play Lex. I say that as someone who can't picture anyone except Michael Rosenbaum as Lex.
lalala weekend. thank god.
