Mar. 23rd, 2011 03:57 pmThere are times when I read almost exclusively in my "comfort fandom." This is one of those times. My "comfort fandom" FYI is Harry Potter, please to be seeing my Snape icon for proof. Isn't he delicious? Y/y? One of the reasons HP is my comfort fandom is the plethora of quality EXTREMELY long fic. I don't know what it is about HP that makes people think "short" fics means 10,000 words but I really, REALLY appreciate it.
Typically, I read Snape/Harry, Draco/Harry, Snape/Draco, and of course Snape/Harry/Draco. At the moment, for some inexplicable reason I want to read Snape/Lupin OR Trio Gen Fic OR Harry/Hermione OR Harry/Hermione/Ron. OR Hermione-centric/gen/I don't care what pairing so long as it is Epic and my girl is awesome. [I have a secret love for Snape/Hermione but most of that fic is DIRE]
Unfortunately, I have no idea where to go to find recs of these pairings, all my sources are in my preferred pairings. I googled last night and found some extraordinarily dubious Snape/Lupin recs. If anyone has any favorites please point them out to me.
Also, if you're new to reading HP ::cough::
crazydiamondsue::cough:: and have recs I may not have come across, please give them to me for I am starving for Epic Length Epically Good Fic.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2059368/1/Dead_Roses (a somewhat unusual Snape and Lupin friendship-ish fic. interesting plot and action but no slash. mostly included because of its rarity, and unique plot. LM plays an intriguing role here too)
http://inkstain.inkquill.com/isf/archive/authorG_J.html (Sirius dies, gets sent back as their "fairy godfather" to ensure Severus and Remus who are lifemates get together. only annoying thing is that you have to search for the 5 parts on the main page here, I could not find a place where the whole thing was consolidated.)
here's a great Draco/Lupin story in 5 parts:

http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=8453
http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=8452
and another good Draco/Lupin: http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=18443
a great Remus/Minerva story (inorite??) http://sam-storyteller.livejournal.com/tag/year+in+the+life
Remus/Ron: http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=2774
Hope these help. I have hundreds of fic recs in my email that I've never posted :)

Date: 2011-03-23 08:36 pm (UTC)http://www.witchfics.org/abby/tosod.html (great mystery; a mysterious potion, an alternate reality and a really scary, evil Snape doppleganger)
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_exchange/148098.html
http://kalinalea.livejournal.com/70443.html (wonderful, long, eventual Snape/Hermione, but the plot/action/mystery is the real focus for much of the story. not sure when it goes AU from canon. there is character death, one from canon and one unexpected but rather pivotal. the story starts in the aftermath of that death though, so you don't have to experience it as part of the fic)
http://www.fictionalley.org/authors/hayseed/DGITB.html (mostly murder-mystery--Harry dies, Hermione comes home from 13 years away doing something mysterious, and Snape is in a mental institution. S/Herm, but subtle)
http://www.obscurusbooks.org/html/Regann/HoM/ (the Hayam potion reveals Hermione to already have a soul mate...who would have thought it would be Severus? a sweet romance, with lots of family OCs that I really enjoyed)
http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=16967 (LOTS of sex, in character...Hermione is cursed and needs sex a lot. it's a cliche, but BEAUTIFULLY done here. loved some of the OCs and the adventure was great and there is a HAPPY ENDING.)
http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=16723 (unusual--Hermione is practising a older magic from the South, comes back to Hogwarts for Ron's funeral, and ends up helping Snape and Harry defeat Voldemort. powerful!Hermione not perfect, there is some awkward writing, but I loved this whole other world the author created, and didn't even explain fully, leaving the reader to fill in the gaps. not necessarily an easy story to read, but quite creative)
http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=19380 (Wonderful story where Hermione yearns for adventure, Snape is his usual self except also a private investigator, and Snake is a lovable Snake familiar.)
oh and here's a bonus Hermione/Lucious! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3565098/1/The_Canterbury_Handfasting (I loved the Lucius characterization in this, even if it might be a little OOC. Hermione is also awesome.)

Date: 2011-03-23 08:43 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, my main pairings are the same as yours so I don't have any recs for S/L, Harry/Hermione myself.
If you want an amazing EPIC Hermione-centric fic, though, I'd strongly rec
In Loco Parentis by Dolores_Crane. Harry/Snape, some Harry/Hermoine, Tonks/OFC. (81,500 words) Really interesting. Definitely most unique and most raw Hermoine POV I've read. Gets into... god, everything? The emotional, isolated confusion of being a teenager, belonging to a marginalized group, experiencing everyday racism... Written post-OOtP, so AU after that. "Hermione is back at school after a summer in the Muggle world, and everything is changing. But getting closer to Harry doesn't get her any closer to the war - until she's unexpectedly enrolled in the Order of the Phoenix, and meets Hestia Jones, the founder of Mud Pride."
One OT3 rec:
Bed and Board by Resonant {Ron/Hermoine/Harry}:(8,650 words) "Yeah," Ron said. "We, er." He scratched his ear with his other hand, then went on very quickly, not meeting his eyes: "We-have-a-Harry-clause."
and... I'm not new at all to HP, but this is a rec for an H/D that seems to be very often overlooked:
Little Red Courgette by blamebrampton {Harry/Draco}
(31,000 words) Post-DH, ignores epilogue. When this season’s purple courgettes are woefully thin, Draco Malfoy thinks it amounts to small beans. Next thing he knows, the European Minister is scoring political points, the Department of Standards is under the spotlight, and a Quibbler cartoonist going by the name of Padfoot is capturing all the chaos. What is an overworked, low-level Ministry office to do?
Another little known HP fic that I love is
Ice by sionnain:(51,200 words) "Yet that terror was not fright, But a tremulous delight"---Edgar Allen Poe. A tale of the courtship of Narcissa Black and Lucius Malfoy. Or: The Incredibly True Story of Two Sociopaths in Love. Darkly riveting. The writing is lovely and doesn’t soften or offer excuses for any of the Slytherins, as many Malfoy fics do. Narcissa makes a surprisingly interesting character, with the concealed steel beneath her placid exterior, the banked rage at both of her contrasting sisters, and slow self-discovery of her attraction to violence. The depiction of a younger Bellatrix is so on-point that she leaps off the page.

It's also up at fanfiction.net, I believe. I just noticed there are a dozen or so one-shots in the 'verse which I can't WAIT to read!
I found it in a .pdf somewhere, but can't find the link. I'll email you both when I find it.
