I've acquired a copy Windows 7. It took 3 discs to burn but when I installed, it only ever prompted me to put the first one in the drive. Everything appears to be running a-ok. Should I go ahead and put the next disc in?

Leave well enough alone? There are three discs for a reason? Curiosity killed the cat?

Visually, I think things look much sharper. Speed-wise things appear to be *much* faster. Yay!

It appears that I haven't lost anything data-wise either. Everything was moved to a folder called Windows.old and is easily accessed.

My next string of questions begins with this: what free [if any] antivirus, spyware, trojan etc. programs do you recommend? I was using Kaspersky with the old OS because I had a copy of it from work. I went ahead and downloaded AVG Free yesterday but I do not know if that is enough on its own

Presuming my work copy of Office 2007 won't load [I think all the licenses are used] would it be safe to go into the Windows.old folder and use the existing copy? Should I copy it from Windows.old and put it on 7? Or is there somewhere safe I could acquire Word and Excel and not have all those other programs? I don't use them at home so I don't need them eating up space on my laptop.

I'm sure this is only the tip of the iceburg as far as questions go. Y'all are all probably going to hate me within a week.

Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated!

If I was going to immerse myself in Fringe should I go back and watch all of season 1 or could I skip to season 2? I watched the front half of 1 and odd episodes here and there. Please advise.

YAY! AVG for your virus protection, Spybot to be run weekly, and bookmark TrendMicro for any other worries. (CCleaner is a good one if you DL and then later delete massive files. It tidies up the joint and makes things more efficient.)

I'm sure someone will have a bunch of great suggestions for you, this is just my method and I'm virus free, have been since the late 90s. :) (But I'm not doing a lot of torrent DL'ding anymore.)

1) Don't run as the Admin. Set up an every day schmeddly account and run as the Admin only to do needed software updates.

2) Don't use IE as your browser.

3) I run Malwarebytes at least once a week.

Re: Fringe: I'd watch at least 1x14, 1x17 (probably), 1x19, and DEFINITELY 1x20 first. And if you haven't seen 1x11, you should, if only for Olivia being EPICALLY AWESOME at the beginning.

Yay! I got mayatawi to advise on Fringe :D. Otherwise I am no help - I run AVG and hope. /o\. Yay for improvement on your laptop, though!

thank you! I used to have trouble with FOX network with my cable box but I don't anymore and while the show is followable, I feel like I'm missing some nuance

CCleaner is a good all-purpose clean up tool. I run it once a month or so just to tidy up the files and my registry and it makes a nice difference.

Win 7 is *MUCH* better. I'm not at all surprised that it's running faster. It's not nearly the hog that Vista was. You might actually be able to use the old copies of word and excel although that I would have to fiddle with so I'm not much help via the internets. I'll keep an eye out, though.

Oo, Fringe. If you love it, lemme know? A local friend LOVES it but I've been leery because I'm afraid it'll scare me.

I do not think you would want to watch Fringe due to the scare and/or ick factor. It's very x-filesian with a higher level of gore.

Please do keep a look out on the other. I wound up having to install the other two discs today. so far today it's good. we'll see how it goes as the day progresses
