Bonnie's anger has been misplaced since the beginning though. She's had anger and self-righteousness problems from the get-go so at least it is consistent. I found it interesting too that they didn't choose to go ahead and let Jeremy die, but Elena needs *something* in her life that is family so I guess, that's that.
The fic that's coming out now that's focusing on The Originals is not at all hearts and flowers. And there are a couple of interesting between the season WIPs going on as well.
But there isn't [as far as I'm aware and frankly even though I run the newsletter I'm not reading that much fic] a corner that's devoted to slash and there certainly isn't a committed dark!fic writer around anywhere]. The fandom mostly appears to be young and commnitted to getting the pairing of their choice -- and this is where TVD fandom truly excels is the amount of pairings and the variety of pairings all to which I credit tvd_rareships -- you can find fic putting together any combination of characters you want, but it's probably going to have a happy ending and not have nearly as many deaths as you'd like.
