some fannish things

** I finished up Misfits. I really wasn't all that entertained by the first series but I trusted the people who told me to watch it and I am so glad I stuck it out! I *loved* series 2 and am looking forward to series 3.

** Is it time for new Luther yet? No? DAMN. What about Secret Diary of a Call Girl? Is Billie up to anything these days? I miss my girlfriend on TV.

** I never really did get into Sherlock. I wanted to. I really did. But something just didn't work for me. Alas.

/random British TV conversation

** Lost Girl was truly entertaining [and deeply problematic, but what can you do?]. The fic for it is DIRE, really REALLY DIRE OMG. If anyone finds anything decent, please point it out. I'm also interested in stills and/or screen caps of Dyson shirtless showing off his awesome bod and tatts and any at all of KENZIE. She is so CUTE. She doesn't rock my world like Billie Piper [few do] but she can be one of my TV girlfriends anyway.

/random Canadian TV conversation

** I tried out The Cape. Wow. What a bunch of shit. No one can make a movie *or* a TV show about Wonder Woman and that shit gets the green light? It had two things going for it 1) Franklin from True Blood and 2) Summer Glau. Franklin isn't funny as Chess and Summer Glau was better on Chuck

** Speaking of Chuck, he comes back next week! Other things about Chuck -- I finally figured out why I detest White Collar so much -- two words: Bryce Larkin. I hate Bryce Larkin HATE him. I couldn't read the majority of Chuck Yuletide fics because so many of them were Chuck/Bryce and even WORSE Chuck/Awesome. I try not to judge other people's pairings but I can not abide these two.

** SouthLAnd continues to be incredible. Seriously. I have one thing to say that is in complete disagreement with everyone else who watches it. I am glad Tammi is such a cunt. And I am glad Dewey is such an utter ass. Without them there wouldn't be any character to really despise. And sometimes? Despising characters on awesome shows is fun.

Why is it that all the best TV comes on Tuesday night at 10:00? I'm speaking of course about SouthLAnd, The Good Wife [this week's ep was *awesome* what am I saying? They're *all* awesome if you want strong female TV characters you should be watching this], and my darling Sons of Anarchy. I tried the latest Tuesday night at ten on FX this week, Lights Out. I ... am on the fence. I don't have a lot of patience for sports figures who make a ton of money and piss it away and then do stupid things. So I don't think I'll be able to stick with it. However, when it is over Justified will be back and once again, Tuesday night at 10 on FX will kick ass. I only wish Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck had stayed watchable [for me]

** I have finally *finally* watched the first episode of Friday Night Lights. And I hate to say it, I'm not feeling it. I think perhaps I am already in mourning because it is the final season and I just don't want it to end. I'll keep dl'ing and saving them up. Maybe by the time it comes on NBC I'll be ready to watch.

** And finally, [perhaps most importantly? I'm not sure] it's two more weeks until The Vampire Diaries comes back. EEEEEE!!!!! My SHOW. I miss you. ::pets my precious:: I am almost finished with Skin to Skin, I've written through part 19 and will have them all finished [if not beta'd] by the time we get new episodes. A couple of people have asked if I'm going to continue it into season 2. The short answer is no. The long answer is maybe, but if I do it, it will be focused on Caroline and not Damon. Damon was my favorite in season 1 without a doubt, but Season 2 [for me] has been All About Caroline Becoming a BAMF.

ETA Spoilers in comments!!!

The Cape was awful. I so wanted to like it because it has many things in it that I love! Plus Summer Glau who is like whipped cream *and* marshmallows!

Yeah, that was probably the worst pilot I've seen in years. How NBC keeps greenlighting this crap I do not understand. Then again, it's allowed me to keep Chuck for three seasons instead of just one, so I'll take it.

I was so relieved to learn Misfits has a s3. I like that things constantly change and the whole time-paradox crap (hate.those.) didn't bother me as much as I was afraid it would. I really enjoyed the music, too.

Needed CC's for Kelly, though. Wow she is hard to understand.

I wants more TVD! I think maybe I'm going to start doing a rewatch of s1 tomorrow. I finally have the dvds and I miss my snarky Damon.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I wanted to like The Cape too. If it hadn't been two hours I would have tried it again, but it blows chunks. Whoever is in charge of that network needs to be fired. I think maybe they were trying to capitalize on Chuck's nerd/geek factor and they failed. Miserably.

I too, appreciate the constant changing on Misfits. It keeps things fresh and kicks out any redundancy there might otherwise be. Kelly is my favorite, without a doubt. It takes me about four words before I get the ear for her accent it's the slang I'm having trouble with!

I'm so sad we're half-way through the season on TVD. I want MORE, MORE, MORE.

That's why her accent/slang bothers me so much - Kelly is absolutely my favorite. I love that BBC shows can have actors who are closer to the 'normal' end of the scale. Lauren Socha is a beautiful woman and probably more slender looking in real life - but she isn't the constant plastic stick figures I see so often on American tv. It's refreshing.

Their treatment of sex is also much better. I've seen pornos that didn't do it for me as much as few of those scenes.

I meant to say before, too, about Lost Girl. I found the ending to be not as good as I was hoping, particularly as regards to Bo & Lauren. I was never in the growing crowd who seem disillusioned about her choice to go back to Dyson - that I saw as more character rather than gender. Dyson was the first person to really help her, emotionally and physically. It's not dissimilar from patients who end up falling in love with their nurses. She's been put in situations where she has to trust him - that translates rather easily.

I'm pleased there will be a second season, though, because I would like to see more of Bo and Lauren and Bo and another female. I'm also incredibly pleased that the creator is dead-set on Bo & Kensie remaining friends. She talks about how a lot of female friendships are portrayed as catty or verging towards sexual on tv, and she's right.

Which made me think about the shows I loved most, and a good chunk of them had strong female relations that weren't portrayed as sexual, whether towards each other or completing over boyfriends or whatever. Buffy, tVD, are the easy examples and shows I love completely. All of which have female friends. I never really thought how rare that was.

Dear god, I cannot shut up. Oops.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You shouldn't have to shut up!

One of the reasons I love Kelly so much is facially she looks almost identical to a good friend of mine. AND she has a normal body. NORMAL. That is one of my favorite things about British TV is like you said, not everyone looks plastic. People are allowed to look like REAL. It's wonderful.

I kept hoping for a polyamorous solution on LG. Frankly, until Bo gained control of her powers she had NO business being with Lauren. At the end of the season she still wasn't completely in control and I've got to respect her for not going there and risking hurting someone she genuinely cared about. My biggest problem with LG is how Dyson and Trick were constantly trying to take away Bo's agency. Kensie in the finale urging Trick to help wasn't any better. I realize character wise they were just trying to help their friend, but sometimes the best way to help someone is to let them stand on their own two feet.

I LOVE that Dyson thought he was giving up his Wolf and instead lost his love for Bo -- I'm looking forward to seeing that play out. I actually liked him better at the beginning when he was so cold and stand offish [what? I have my kinks]

And yes, irt non-sexualized female friendships on TV. It shouldn't be so rare, yet it IS

I am right there with you. If nothing else, lovey-dovey couples in a show about a succubus does not make for good tv. So this is a really good plot development I am looking forward to.

You're right about taking away her agency at the end. I think that Bo might actually understand that, too. Well meaning or not, she wasn't looking for assistance that she didn't ask for - and she tends to get upset when people go out of their way to help her with things she doesn't want.

Which makes me wonder at the people who are castigating Lost Girl for not being... I don't know, bi enough or lesbian enough. Stop focusing on who gets with who and follow the characters. There are plenty of problematic things with the show, but that one is being manufactured by people with a score card, nothing more.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that she's got a bit more control and can feed without killing [most of the time, so far at least] I think Bo will realize on her own the majority of what she loved about Dyson was the novelty of NOT killing her sexual partner. And she damn near killed him a time or two.

She gets really PISSED when people treat her like she can't take care of herself. And yet, at the same time she's never gone out of her way to learn anything about her culture on her *own*. Watching her fumble through the culture is one of my favorite parts of the show [well, that and Dyson's naked flesh JFC that man is hot].

When LG was first pimped to me one of the biggest pimping factors was the bisexuality. I suppose if that was your selling point and 3/4 of the way through the season it looked like it was going to end up happy hetero-ever-after I could see where you'd be disgruntled. However! That's not where the season *ended* and isn't that really what it's all about on hiatus? Where the characters are instead of where they came from as you anticipate the next season?

That's not where the season *ended* and isn't that really what it's all about on hiatus? Where the characters are instead of where they came from as you anticipate the next season?

That is how I view it, but I think the ones who feel burned are maybe used to it and don't see it worth pursuing once another hope has let them down. I don't get that, but then again, I'm far more interested in the dynamics as a whole. I think the move to happy-couple land was definitely leading up to this plot point and the emotional resonance it'll cause. We'll see when it comes back, but it feels almost Jossian to me - anyone happy gets screwed - and I think I recognized that early in.

That, or Joss has ruined my ability to predict. It wasn't so great beforehand, either *g*

I found Bo's reluctance to actively investigate her own culture to be interesting. I could see it as that she was too busy trying to get a handle on her own life - steady income, steady control in herself, and then trying to work on external things, but she really does need to take an active role. Or at least recognize that she isn't and deal with it.

I did a chair dance when I learned there was to be a second season. The first absolutely layered a lot of possibilities beyond "Bo Fight Bad Things" week after week and I have high hopes for some amazing character studies.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
four years ago if you had told me I was going to say the following I would have told you you were insane.

If I never see, read, or hear about another Joss Whedon project again, it'll be too soon. Talk about someone with only one story to tell. It was a great story the first time around! It was entertaining the second time. But the third? And the fourth? and then the god help me fifth and sixth? He needs to get over himself or something.

And yes, that whole Jossian feeling in any other show/media drives me insane.

I had no idea there was going to be a second season, but then again I didn't think there *wouldn't* be one either so YAY

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, agreed on Joss. I'm not as burned out by him as some, but that's partially because I tend to romanticize my nostalgia and I don't want to lose the joy I had in the series and what it's helped me find.

But yeah, I'm glad Joss is being forced to do someone else's material. Maybe that'll give him a chance to figure out his head. Either way, he gave me stuff I liked and I'm happy for that.

Yes, definitely a second season. I went scouring the internets for it in December because I knew I would want way more <3

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss Buffy. I should really re-watch some favorite episodes. That show brought so much joy and excitement to my life when I otherwise didn't have any. I hate to be down on Joss because of that fact but ...

I think the next time I really want to write porn, seriously hard core porn? It's going to be in Lost Girl fandom.

Mmmm. You know what would be fun? Tag Lost Girl porn. You wanna? I'm going to be pretty busy at work this after noon but we could if you wanted.

Hmmm. I could be up for that. My ability to do 'voices' is shot to hell and back, but maybe shaking things up is what I need.

And lol, I'm pretty sure you've seen my etchings given my porn writing tendencies!

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

You may have drawn mine.

I don't have a handle on anyone's voice in LG-world. I haven't watched any of the episodes in a while. We could make a date to re-watch an episode or two and then tag?
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

That sounds like a plan! Anything in particular you want to do/touch/characters...? I am open to anything and seem to have gotten over my het problem rather nicely. Femslash should be next. Or F/F/M instead of M/M/F.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Some kink of course. There should be fisting in LG. Both f/f and F/M with the top being Bo of course *g*

I'd like to a sexual exploration set post-finale. Dyson doesn't love her anymore, yet he's still feeding her. She and Lauren are good, but maybe Bo's hurt or run-down and doesn't trust herself not to kill Lauren, thus the threesome is born?

Outside Kensie POV snark is always a bonus of course.

Is there anything you want to touch on?
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like the idea of that threesome. That gives us a ton of emotional to work with, plus kink.

I am down with fisting. And any other kink. Bo is absolutely going to be on top.

I'm not so good with snark, lately, but I am happy to try.

For what I want... I honestly don't have much I can think of beforehand. I'm just excited to write with you :D

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, whoever heard of a Succubus submissive? Plus, I love it when a big testosterone filled man gets the shit topped out of him.

Yes, from an emotional standpoint there's a ton going on at that point. Dyson *really* dislikes Lauren and I'd love to explore the antagonism there. I'm not so sure it has anything at at to do with Lauren per se, more the [I forget what they call him] Light Fae chief she works for. Plus I think he has a touch of Fae superior to human prejudice.

Except for Kensie, for lo, Kensie is awesome and the whole world loves her.

I'm excited to write with you too!!! This will be tons of fun.

I'm so glad you like Misfits! I agree the S1 isn't quite as compelling, but my love of Nathan kind of overshadowed everything there so I found it easy to gloss over the things I didn't like as much. I love Kelly too. And I love Kelly and Nathan being friends. I really wish there was more Kelly and Nathan friendship fic out there. Nathan and Simon friendship fic too for that matter. I'm trying not to think too much about the fact that S3 isn't going to be until the fall.

I just started watching Luther this week and I fucking LOVE it. I'm eagerly awaiting the second disc from Netflix. I also had no idea it was a current series so I was super psyched to realize there will be a S2 sometime in the nebulous BBC tv future. I love both Luther and Alice a lot. And not in a shippy way it's just so great to actually see characters like that on tv. I fucking love British television.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man. Series 1 I *despised* Nathan. Seriously, he's the reason I nearly quit watching. Fortunately the little cunt grew on me. I was so glad they didn't go there with him and Kelly I couldn't have stood it. And JESUS Simon is a creepy fucker, even if future!Simon isn't quite as creepy. That whole dead probation worker in the freezer?

CREEPTASTIC.

yes, Luther is completely and totally made of win. The actors on that show [Luther and Alice of course, but the characters of the week?] are truly mind blowingly amazing. I wish random characters of the week were so talented in more US tv.
ext_17079: ([ianto] must have been a sunday)

[identity profile] greenapricot.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, yeah, I can totally see why you would, but seem to have an unlimited capacity for loving obnoxious characters like Nathan. He is far too fucked up to be in a relationship anyway. I keep thinking of the similarities between Simon and Ianto (the deviousness, the fact that people always tend to underestimate him, the Welshness (though Simon is for sure more creepy)) and wanting a Misfits/Torchwood crossover. Also, Nathan and Jack with their immortality. Maybe with S3 the fandom will get bigger and that will happen. Lately everything new thing I watch just makes me want more and more crossovers.

I wish random characters of the week were so talented in more US tv.
Yes. Totally. And I wish the writers were as talented too.

Oh, and I've started with FNL too. I think I've watched 3 or 4 eps so far and there are some things that I am very into that are happening. Things that I'm pretty sure you will like too once you get to them.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I've gotten to the point where pretty much all I can think about *ever* is how to crossover certain shows. I had thought of Torchwood/Misfits not in specifics so much as tangentially. Such as, why hadn't Torchwood already investigated the situation moreso than the character interactions.

I'm curious if everyone will get their original power back. I kind of think Simon will want the ability to touch Alisha [not that I think she'll get that power back] moreso than the power to be invisible.

I didn't dislike season 1 on FNL more that I honestly don't want to watch it. It's got to be some sort of emotional distancing I'm doing subconsciously.

I wish it would stop.

[identity profile] dancetomato.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not watched a single one of these shows. Okay, I've seen some secondhand Sons of Anarchy while Essene watched it. I have a feeling I'd like Chuck, but I don't have enough curiosity to set about watching it.

Living for the return of Supernatural!
