Gossip Girl

Do you have a secret!fandom!shame? I do. And it involves Gossip Girl. My favorite GG fic is Blair/Dan.

Anyone who knows how I feel about the *show* knows I detest Dan. He's judgemental. He's got a chip on his shoulder. He's more boring and "perfect" than Brandon Walsh and I CAN'T STAND HIM. But then there's Blair/Dan fic and I can't help but draw hearts all around it.

Blair/Dan AU of Doom by mardia. Starts with Serena away at Boarding School, Blair and Dan get assigned to do a project together and eventually become friends. Several completed stories, on-going universe. This is the tag page, you'll have to go back 20 to get to the beginning. You can fall into this verse for hours.

Some asshole raises his hand and asks about the required books and seriously, Blair can feel herself aging, one second at a time. Someone else stammers a question about the grading rubric and the familiarity of his voice makes Blair's head snap up. She hasn't seen him, not even in passing, since orientation in August. Even though she can only see the back of his head and a hideous sweater, she totally knows it's Humphrey. God, he would ask about the grading system.

Like she needed another reason to drop this class.

Ratings vary from PG-13/R. AU during the summer between the seasons.

When his caller ID says Waldorf, he answers with no hesitation. He’s actually been that bored recently.

She doesn’t sound like herself as she says, “Humphrey, remind me that Brooklyn is shittier than I feel right now.” Kind of shaky and unsure, and even though he’s getting sick of the borough, he knows Brooklyn is definitely in better shape than she is right now.

Dan starts talking about the used bookstore he went to, and this poem by Larry Levis he found that he can’t get out of his head. He somehow stops himself from quoting his favorite line.

He only gets off the phone with her when she says they’re pulling up outside her father’s house. After hearing the thanks, which seemed like it held a hint of a smile, the line goes dead. He realizes, later on, that in his desire for human interaction, he’d never even asked why she was calling him.



And for something NOT Blair/Dan related I give you,

Lies My Father Told Me by moosesal Chuck character study. PG. Serious angst warning. Chuck found it hard to remember a time when he didn't drink or pop the occasional pill. Not that he was an addict. He wasn't stupid.

As fucked up as it sounded, his father'd raised him to be smarter than that.

Ya know, I never got Blair/Dan stuff until I saw this week's episode. Leighton and Penn really sold the chemistry with those two--now, I could see it.

Except the relationship would only last three days, tops, because Chuck would so have Dan killed. First Nate, then Blair? Uh-uh.

I'm a sucker (in fic) for opposites and Blair/Dan is about as opposite as you can get. Naturally Chuck would destroy it, but mostly in fic he just sort of fades away or is busy tormenting other people. Mainly, I think people have difficult writing Chuck because all they see is what's on the surface, which is what he wants them to see so ...
