Snape does not approve

When writing fandom fusions wherein another fandom is going to school at Hogwarts, it's important to sort the characters correctly.

For instance: regardless of his chess playing ability [please see Ron Weasley the finest chess player in HP 'verse], seduction techniques, and general ability to lie: James T. Kirk would never sort anything but Gryffindor. And if you think I'm wrong, look at his gold uniform. He's already dressed like a Gryffindor.

Things like that irritate the shit out of me. I mean yeah, your fic and all, opinions vary, and YMMV, and all that shit, but James T. Kirk is *not* a Slytherin. The End.

Other things that irritate me: You say your fic has been beta'd and lo, the beta is AWESOME. Why then are your canon character names spelled incorrectly and why did I come across "fallowing" when it should have been following? Hmm?

OMG ISN'T IT FUCKING AMAZING

I think if Unser had come all the way clean and told Opie what Clay had done to Tara it would have ... lessened the impact. I truly look forward to how it plays out.

Gemma and Tig and then Clay and Tig and then Tig walking away. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

seriously, in an episode where each new emotional level was even more intense than the one before? That quiet scene with no yelling, punching, or cursing was so emotionally satisfying.

As for sober Wendy, you had to know there was a reason Gemma hated her besides the whole junkie!whore thing. Now, I don't know how Wendy could have been more threatening than Tara, but for some reason to Gemma she is/was. Frankly I think Gemma [now, not back in season 1] sees Tara as a younger less damaged version of herself.

And then Juice and Chibs. I am absolutely dying for Juice/Chibs h/c. DYING [yes, I do still plan to write but JFC, we need more than 1!!!!!!!]

So my experience with HP ends with the first movie. But even I wouldn't make Kirk a Slytherin. That makes no sense. And misspelled names are NEVER acceptable.

SoA was so good this week. So good.

Wait, what!?!?!! Kirk is TOTALLY a Gryffindor, no questions asked. (For his resourcefulness and ability to get into all the trouble ever alone, man.) Putting him in Slytherin is like putting Spock in Hufflepuff instead of Ravenclaw. Seriously, did this author ever even see an instant of any incarnation of Star Trek at all???

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because Kirk is a Gryffindor! He could never be anything else.

It was great last week too. This season has been so much better than season 3 that it's ridiculous.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY.

Well. If it were a Vulcan *only* school I could make an argument for putting Spock into Hufflepuff. He's so incredibly loyal and driven. Or Gryffindor because following Jim into those ridiculous situations takes a certain sort of suicidal tendency *or* an incredible amount of loyalty. *But* if it were open to all members of the Federation Spock would have to sort Ravenclaw; there's just no other option.

I couldn't finish the fic, I was hoping it was McCoy that was a Slytherin and not Kirk, but I was wrong

Alas.

I did read a great HP/ST fusion the other day where people were sorted properly. But I already forgot where/who/etc

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, loyalty isn't just a Hufflepuff trait. I mean, no one's more loyal than Hermione and Neville and they were straight-up made for Gryffindor.

This is actually why I don't read HP crossovers, to be honest. Because it irks me when people get the houses so effing wrong. *g*

I absolutely agree: Jim is a Gryffindor.

BUT,

I go back and forth on McCoy and Spock. Arguments could be made for putting either into Slytherin or Ravenclaw, though I suppose they're both Gryffindors at heart. Still, I like the idea of a Slytherin McCoy. My McCoy is a Slytherin.

[identity profile] turnonmyheels.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, your McCoy is certainly Slytherin and it works in your narrative. Your Spock is more Slytherin than canon too, I think, but it *works*. Telling me Jim Kirk is a Slytherin and proving it by the color of his tie? No how, no way
